Senior Year Math Experience Options
If you participated in the Early Assessment Program (EAP) and earned an EAP Math Status of "Conditionally Exempt," you can change your math status to "Exempt" by successful completion of one of the approved Senior Year Math Experience options below (including a new eLearning Option) during your senior year.
Option A: An Approved High School Course
Earn a grade of C or better in a yearlong approved high school course during your senior year. The following courses are approved by the CSU:
- Algebra 2
- Trigonometry and Mathematical Analysis
- Pre-Calculus
- AP Calculus AB
- AP Calculus BC
- AP Chemistry
- Honors Chemistry
- AP Physics
- Honors Physics
Any other yearlong high school math course that has Algebra 2 as a prerequisite.
Any yearlong high school statistics, physics, or chemistry course that meets both of the following criteria:
-
Is listed on the school's University of California area C and D subject requirements, AND
-
Has a prerequisite of Algebra 2.
Option B: A Specially Approved High School Course
Any course that is specifically approved by the CSU Mathematics Faculty Validation Committee prior to the student's senior year. Your high school counselor will have a list of any special courses that have been approved at your school.
High schools must submit a course proposal to the Validation Committee for approval.
Option C: An Approved eLearning Program
Some eLearning programs qualify for the Senior Year Math Experience when use of them is monitored by a teacher-mentor from your high school. See the eLearning Student Guide for requirements.
Option D: An Approved Community College Course
Complete and earn a grade of C or better in an intermediate algebra course offered at a California Community College before high school graduation. Any math course for which intermediate algebra is a prerequisite also qualifies.
Please note that you must meet the community college prerequisite and diagnostic standards to enroll in such a course. In addition, permission from your high school counselor is required for simultaneous enrollment in high school and community college.
