If your EAP Math Status is “Conditionally Exempt”
If your EAP Math Status is “Conditionally Exempt,” here are some guidelines for meeting the ELM Requirement:
-
Enroll in an EAP Senior Year Math Experience math course sequence.
-
If there is any chance you will not complete the ALEKS program or other acceptable Senior Year Experience such as a math or science course that requires Algebra II as a prerequisite, you should plan to take the ELM Exam to ensure that you meet CSU placement requirements. You should consult the ELM Exam Schedules and contact the campus that admitted you for further information about the date by which you must complete the ELM Requirement as a condition to enroll in classes.
-
If you successfully complete the ALEKS program or other acceptable Senior Year Experience, you are not required to take the ELM Exam. You are encouraged to take the ELM Exam ONLY IF there is any chance you will not complete the ALEKS program or other acceptable Senior Year Experience such as a math or science course that requires Algebra II as a prerequisite. This is a back-up strategy in case you do not earn a grade of C or better in an approved course taken to maintain your "conditional exemption" from taking the ELM Exam.
-
If you don’t successfully complete your Senior Year Math Experience, you will need to satisfy the ELM Requirement by another method. While other methods are available, we recommend that you make successful completion of the Senior Experience your top priority. The Senior Year Math Experience is among the most cost, time, and educationally effective methods.
