Helping you map your way to success in math

What is the CSU Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) Exam?

The CSU ELM Exam is a math placement exam that is one way of satisfying the CSU ELM Requirement. The exam is typically taken by high school seniors in their spring semester or later, after they have been accepted to a CSU, and if they have not yet met the ELM Requirement by any other means. Students earning a score of 50 or higher on this exam meet the ELM Requirement.

The ELM Exam includes problems that emphasize quantitative reasoning and problem-solving from topics in number sense and data, algebra, and geometry. Many students find it difficult to pass this Exam without preparation, even if they have had advanced math courses in high school.
