Welcome Counselors, Teachers, and Administrators!

The Math Success website has been created by The California State University (CSU) to support students in meeting the CSU Entry Level Math (ELM) Requirement, and in being better prepared for college courses requiring quantitative reasoning. The site has two main functions:

To provide clear and authoritative information about meeting the CSU Entry Level Math (ELM) Requirement through a variety of options.
To provide students with an opportunity to become familiar with the ELM Exam and access to some online tools for assessment and preparation. Students have the choice of taking a short (10-problem) practice quiz, a longer ALEKS assessment which provides a detailed analysis of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, or a self-administered set of 50 ELM practice problems. An online ALEKS ELM Tutor is also avaliable at special CSU pricing.

Features of the site include:

The Math Success Roadmap feature helps students plot their personalized path to meeting the ELM Requirement with interactive step-by-step instructions, due dates, and links to appropriate information. High school teachers that have access to computer classrooms with internet connectivity might wish to generate roadmaps as a class activity.
Information about the new Early Assessment Program (EAP) in mathematics, which is offered in conjunction with the 11th grade California Standards Test (CST). The EAP assesses students as either Exempt, Conditionally Exempt, Non-Exempt, or Incomplete from the ELM Requirement.
Information about the Senior Year Math Experience Options for Conditionally Exempt students and advice about taking math their senior year for Exempt and Non-Exempt students is provided. Contact information for CSU Campus EAP Coordinators is also available.
Students and Teachers who participate in the eLearning Option of the Senior Year Math Experience will be interested in the eLearning Student Guide and eLearning Teacher Mentor Guide.
Information about the ELM Exam, assessment and preparation tools, and campus ELM Exam preparation programs will be of particular interest to entering CSU freshmen who have yet to meet the ELM Requirement.
Finally, video clips of CSU Freshmen who failed to ELM Requirement before starting their freshman year at CSU help students and parents understand the consequences of having to complete up to three semesters of non-credit ELM Equivalent Coursework at CSU or be dismissed from the University.
