ELM Exam Preparation

If you haven't met the ELM requirement by other means, you must take the exam before you can register for classes. The exam is your last chance to avoid having to enroll in remedial math courses. Prepare seriously.

This page provides several different opportunities for you to use online tools to prepare for the ELM Exam.

Description
  • You will be asked to register or to log in in order to access the tutorial at the reduced rate of $47.
  • To access this service you will need to register for the site or log in to your account.
  • This tutorial will determine which math topics you need to practice and will guide you through the process of learning that material.
  • This is not a quick review, but rather a study course.
  • You are encouraged to spend 1-2 hours a day to complete the tutorial.
  • The $47 price has been specially arranged by the CSU (non sale price = $80).
  • Registration and credit card payment are required.
  • Listen to a teacher and his students talk about the value they got from this online math tutorial.

Description
  • This quiz is the same length and basic format as the ELM exam.
  • You may find it useful to take this quiz once you have already prepared for the exam.
  • To simulate testing conditions, you should work alone, set a time limit of 90 minutes, and avoid using a calculator.

Test Format 50 multiple-choice problems on paper
Description
  • This is a retired ELM test which was given in 2011. To simulate the experience of taking the exam, find a quiet room, avoid interruptions, limit your time to 90 minutes and do not use a calculator.
  • Many of the problems in this practice test are duplicated in the 10 and 50 online ELM practice problems above.
  • To access these problems you need to be able to download and print a PDF file.
  • An answer key is included in the file.
