Checklist for Parents of High School Juniors

  • Be sure your student completes the Roadmap on this website.
  • Be sure your student is taking required college preparatory English classes.
  • Encourage your student to do well on the CAASPP exam.
  • Encourage your student to take the SAT or ACT national college placement tests in the spring.

Checklist for Parents of High School Seniors– Fall Semester

  • Encourage your student to update his/her Roadmap on this website to stay on track for a smooth transition to the CSU.
  • Look for your student's CAASPP Student Score Report mailed by the high school in early fall.  This important report includes your student's EAP results.
  • Check to see if your student's EAP, SAT or ACT scores meet the English requirement.
  • If your student's EAP status is "Conditionally Ready" for English college-level coursework, be sure that he/she completes one of the approved senior year-long English course with a grade of "C-" or better.  Note: Student that do not complete the approved course with a "C-" or better, may be required to participate in the Early Start Program, unless they meet other Early Start Program exemptions.
  • If your student's EAP status is "Not Yet Ready" or "Not Ready" for mathematics college-level coursework, they will be required to participate in the Early Start Program unless they meet other Early Start Program exemptions.

Checklist for Parents of High School Seniors– Spring Semester

  • If your student has not met the EPT Requirement by February, make sure that he/she begins preparing for the EPT exam by using the online EPT Exam Preparation tools.
  • If your student is required to take the EPT exam, encourage him/her to register for the EPT exam popup window icon in early spring in accordance with the instructions delivered by the admitting campus.
  • If your student has not fulfilled the EPT Requirement, he/she will need to participate in the Early Start Program during the summer before arriving at a CSU. Find out more about this program and encourage your student to take this course seriously.
