Ready for CSU or Participating CCC College-Level English Courses

Students with an EAP English status of "Ready for CSU or participating CCC college-level English courses" have met the CSU English Placement Test (EPT) requirement. Meeting this requirement is the first step towards succeeding in college level English.

About the "Ready for CSU or Participating CCC College-Level English Courses" Status

  • The "Ready for CSU or participating CCC college-level English courses" status means that students are ready to enroll in for-credit English courses at the CSU.
  • This EAP status is not a guarantee of admission to the CSU. Students are still required to apply to a CSU campus and will need to satisfy all CSU college preparatory coursework.

Tips for Preparing for the CSU

Students should be encouraged to take advantage of their senior year to keep their critical reading and writing skills sharp. The following tips provide some good options for them:

  • Help students to choose their senior year English course carefully. Some schools have recently developed courses that focus on analytical reading and writing, which help to prepare students for college.
  • If appropriate, suggest that students enroll in an AP English course.
  • Encourage students to practice writing every day by keeping a journal and jotting down ideas that come to them during the day. The best way for students to develop critical thinking skills is to think and to write down their thoughts.
  • Encourage students to read every chance they get. Good writers are good readers. Students should make it a habit to read the newspaper daily, especially the editorial page or the Op Ed page.
