You're preparing to take the ELM Exam in spring of your high school senior year. What senior-year math course is best?
Your high school counselor or math teacher is best qualified to advise you on what course is most appropriate for you. The advice below is offered as a general guideline:
- The content tested on the ELM Exam is Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. In order to do well, you need to keep those skills sharp.
-
If you earned an A or B in each of those courses and feel confident about the material, we recommend taking a math course for which Algebra 2 is a prerequisite. Such a course will require you to repeatedly use those skills to solve more challenging problems and will serve as excellent preparation for the ELM Exam.
- If you didn’t earn an A or B in Algebra 2, talk with your high school counselor or math teacher about retaking that, or a comparable math course to gain confidence and mastery of the material.
-
If an appropriate course is not available to you, talk to your counselor about taking an eLearning option to help you prepare for the ELM Exam.
