If you've met the ELM requirement, what senior course should you take?
In order to select the mathematics course most beneficial for your long-term academic goals, you should consider your most likely major and/or minor in college, and the CSU campus that you are most likely to attend.
On most CSU campuses, majors and minors such as mathematics, the physical sciences, the life sciences, computer science, business, economics, and certain social sciences require calculus. Students considering studying these fields should take pre-calculus or advanced placement calculus.
Majors such as journalism, communication, and many social sciences often require statistics. Students interested in those majors should take probability and statistics.
Future K-8 teachers must take from one to four semesters of specialized mathematics and are well-advised to bring strong number sense and algebraic reasoning skills to college. Those students should take any mathematics course that keeps their skills fresh.
The math requirements for a major vary somewhat among CSU campuses, but most have online catalogues students and counselors can consult.
Once you have decided on a particular senior year mathematics course or have narrowed your selection, it is wise to seek the input and approval of your high school counselor.
