Exempt

If a student's EAP Math Status is “Exempt” then they have met the CSU ELM requirement. Meeting this requirement is the first step towards succeeding in college level math.

About the Exempt Status

  • The EAP Math Exempt status means that a student is ready to enroll in for-credit math courses at the CSU.
  • The Exempt status is not a guarantee of admission to the CSU. Students are still required to apply and to satisfy all of the CSU college preparatory coursework.

Keeping Math Skills Sharp

  • Taking a fourth year of high school math will strengthen a student's college applications and improve their opportunities.
  • Students should consider taking an Advanced Placement (AP) math course. They may be able to earn college credit.
  • Students should consider taking pre-calculus or AP calculus if they think that they might major in any of the following areas:
    • mathematics,
    • the physical sciences,
    • the life sciences,
    • computer science,
    • business,
    • economics
  • Students should consider taking a statistics class if they think that they might major in any of the following areas:
    • journalism
    • communication
    • social sciences
  • Students should consider taking any mathematics that they find interesting if they think that they might choose a major designed for future grade school or middle school teachers.
  • Students should consider taking a math course at the local community college, if they cannot find a suitable course at their high school,
  • Students should consult with their high school counselor to determine the best course of action.
