Ready for CSU or Participating CCC College-Level English Courses

If your EAP English status is "Ready for CSU or participating CCC college-level English courses", then you have met the CSU EPT requirement. Congratulations for being prepared for college level English! You are in a great position because you can now focus on the next steps towards succeeding at the CSU.

  • You are ready to enroll in for-credit English courses at the CSU.
  • You are still required to apply to a CSU campus and will need to satisfy all CSU college preparatory coursework.

Keeping Your English Skills Sharp

  • Choose your senior high school English course carefully. Some schools have recently developed college prep courses that focus on analytical reading and writing. Find out from your counselor or your English teacher whether your school has such courses.
  • Consider taking Advanced Placement (AP) English if it is offered at your school. You may be able to earn college credit by passing the AP exam.
  • Practice writing every day. Keep a journal, if you do not already do so, and jot down ideas that come to you during the day. Develop those ideas. Analyze the movies you have seen; how would you have improved either the action or the story line? The best way to develop critical thinking skills is to think and to write down your thoughts.
  • Read every chance you get. Good writers are good readers. Make it a habit to read the newspaper daily, especially the editorial page or the Op Ed page. Read the essays and columns that are in magazines like Newsweek, Time, and The New Yorker. Think about them.
